Public Relations Committee Summary

The Public Relations Committee (PRC) is a CGJA standing committee established to increase public understanding of the association and the value of grand juries within California. The committee has multiple functions:

CGJA Website – The PRC maintains the CGJA website to promote the CGJA and the California grand jury system.  The website also provides links to other websites with useful content for grand jurors, CGJA members, and anyone interested in the system.

CGJA Grand Jurors’ Journal –  The PRC creates, edits, and publishes the bimonthly Grand Jurors’ Journal. The Journal provides current information concerning issues, events, and activities about the California grand jury system. Articles of particular interest to sitting grand juries are sought for every issue. The Journal is sent either electronically or by hardcopy mail to all CGJA members, including Introductory Members, grand juries, court personnel, and others interested in the grand jury system.

CGJA News Website –  CGJA News is a bimonthly publication sent electronically to members and other deemed appropriate in the alternate months to distribution of the Grand Jurors’ Journal. When a single topic of a critical nature needs to be sent to the membership an “E-blast” is created and distributed in the same manner.

CGJA News Blog Website –  The CGJA News Blog, maintained by the PRC, is a posting on our website of news articles from print and electronic sources about grand jury reports in all counties. It demonstrates how the media are covering grand juries throughout the state.

Grand Jury Achievement – CGJA’s policy is to document, to the greatest extent possible and over an extended period of time, effective grand jury reporting from all counties.  An effective grand jury report is one that results in a recommendation agreed to and implemented by the affected entity and that has a verifiable beneficial improvement in local government operations.  The PRC is responsible for collecting, analyzing, documenting, and publicizing these reports.
